Why would anyone want to increase their self-esteem? Well, because its one of the yardsticks that dictate your results in life. I did the Celestine Prophecy course in Durban, under a good friend of mine, Caroline.
One of the things we did, was to stand in a horseshoe shape, with one member at a time, in the centre, with a facilitator behind us. We were told to stand in a crucifix position, with our arms stretched out horizontally. The group was then instructed to first direct bad thoughts to us, and then good thoughts. The facilitator would try to push our arms down.
I found, that when the group directed empowering thoughts, my arms were rigid. With negative thoughts, my arms were easily pushed down. I concluded from this, that your peer groups, work "family", family, etc. form a large part of ones self-esteem.
In other words, part of my self-esteem was made up from what people thought of me. To increase my self-esteem, I would have to raise the way people viewed me. Its easy enough to do. But. How easy is it, to ride rough shod over someone's dreams, or feelings, especially when we are "sitting pretty", or in a position of power. And then to justify, by whatever facts are available. (And you can always find a way to justify something.) " Its just business." "He had it coming." "It was for her own good." Tom Hopkins said, that its easily done, but when you're feeding the chickens, (who crowd around you, as they do), its almost impossible to see which one gave you that painful peck, on the hand. "Just speak your mind."
Say some people. But you could just be hurting other peoples feelings. So what? Well. What if you are really hurting yourself? I mean, how hard is it to consider other people's feelings? Why should I care? True. But what if those other peoples feelings were actually limiting your earnings? Which translates to your experience of life? "Treat other people the way you want to be treated." Very wise words, but I think, it was more than just a suggestion on how to live your life. More like a cause, and effect definition. I wish you every success.
